Bi-folding doors for Garden Studios
Over the years we’ve installed a number of bi-folding doors in garden studios. We enjoy being part of such projects. In the below example the proposed garden studio was purpose built to provide a pleasant and creative space to work from home. Constructed from structurally insulated panel (SIPS) and envisaged with a sedum roof this modern garden studio was sympathetically designed to tie in with the surrounding garden. The walls are externally clad in horizontal shiplap larch whilst the doors at a little over 2.4 metres high provide plenty of light to the space. The aluminium is powder coated in RAL 6013 which will continue to look good against the wood as it ages down to a silvery grey patina. Being a three door set one door can be opened independently in the same manner you would open a front door. This can be folder back completely on itself against the remaining two doors and is held in place by means of a magnetic catch which also serves to prevent the door handle from touching the glass on the opposing door. Often overlooked the space outside of the office is equally useful. On a warm day the doors can be part or fully opened to connect with the garden and whether contemplating an important business decision or perhaps relaxing in the hammock over lunch you’ll still be in easy reach of the office.

The below example shows another completely different garden studio, the only common factor being the bifolding doors. This studio is raised on a decking and affords a view back across the garden to the house. A canopy extends over the doors which offers some protection from the rays of the sun in the summer whilst also allowing the doors to be opened on a rainy day. The doors open outwards onto the deck, so they can be opened without impacting on the internal space. Like the above studio the single door can be opened independently for ease of access.
