How should I go about measuring up?

Measuring Up:

Height: When measuring the height of the aperture remember to allow for any cill, flashing or threshold you plan to fit underneath. Height should be measured from the surface the lower track will actually sit on. Measure at both sides and in the middle and provide us the smallest measurement.

Width: Measure in several places and provide us with the smallest measurement.

Are the top, bottom, and sides straight? If not we need the smallest dimensions.

Whether you’re building a new opening or using an existing one read our brief measuring up guide.

Are there any standards accessories?

You’ll find our doors well specified.
We fit trickle ventilation to the door set to meet with normal room ventilation requirements and building regulations.

What colours are available?

We apply the latest coatings to ensure an almost perfect long lasting finish
Powder coating is the very best finish to apply to your sliding doors. The thermoset polymer of architectural grade creates a hard finish much tougher than ordinary paint so future maintenance is minimal with many years of attractive life. We offer the four most popular colours, simply : Black, Anthracite, Grey and White. Other colours from the RAL range are optionally available. RAL is a specialized polyester powder coating for aluminium and is tough and long lasting. If you have a special colour in mind let us know and we will be happy to quote.

95% of our customers choose Matt Black (RAL 9005), Anthracite (RAL7016) or Satin White (RAL 9910) so we can hold the price of these finishes down. If you have a special colour in mind please call for a price.

What type of Glass is specified?

Designed and specified to keep you warm and cut heating bills. The latest and highest standards and performance are our mantra.

28mm sealed glazing, argon filled toughened glass units have a U value of 1.2. Conscious of your safety our glazing is designed to meet and indeed exceed British Building Regulations. Each sealed double glazed unit used across our range of doors is manufactured from toughened safety glass to BS6206. This is significantly stronger than normal glass but critically in the unlikely event of a breakage it will shatter into harmless fragments.

An inert gas, Argon, fills the units thus improving insulation and reducing heat loss. With a U Value of 1.2 you’ll be well insulated from the heat of high summer and the cold in the depth of winter. The glazing and system complies with Part L of Building regulations which covers thermal efficiency.

Will you make matching windows and doors ?

Yes
Please call us to discuss.

What type of handles are fitted?

Security is important.

Satin black architectural ironmongery is standard. These slim elegant modern handles and locks are provided both inside and outside the master door.

Do the sliding doors meet British Standards?

Our sliding doors have been tested and passed the severe weather ratings to BS6375 Part 1 Class C. 28mm sealed glazing, argon filled toughened glass units have a U value of 1.2.

Naturally we test our systems to extremes, wind pressure, water pressure and gusting are three standard tests, all passed, so rest comfortably. Additionally to keep you warm the thermal polymide breaks in our system comply with the building regulations document ‘L’ which calls for ‘U’ values of 1.8 or better which our system easily exceeds.

How secure are your doors?

Security is important.
The rails at the base and head capture the rollers and glides and so these cannot be levered out. Security is a major consideration so we provide a 5 point locking mechanism on our doors. Each door is framed using heavy duty angled extrusions at the corners locked into position to ensure a firm square frame. On multiple doors sets the door locks can be suited.

High security Euro Locking Cylinders are used throughout Viva’s range of doors. These are the latest generation of cylinder locks with several layers of protection built in to guarantee protection against lock snapping, bumping, and other forms of lock attack.

  • Conforms to TS 007 – the ultimate in lock security.
  • Conforms to British Standards BSEN1303:2005, KM553511.
  • Police preferred Secured by Design accreditation
  • Certified by the Master Locksmiths Association
  • Meets the highest levels of security demanded by ‘Secured by Design’

What are your delivery times?

Once your order is confirmed.
As little as 15 working days is possible but normal delivery is around 20-25 working days.

Do you charge extra for delivery?

For mainland UK.
No, the price you see is what you pay.

Can you fit the doors yourself?

Designed with self assembly in mind.
Yes the system is designed to be fitted by a competent D.I.Y. person with clear instructions. We do however offer an expert fitting service.

How should you prepare for a trouble free installation?

To ensure your doors are assembled in a trouble free manner:
Ensure the cill on which the track sits is flat and level.

The sides should be vertical. This can be checked with a long spirit level or plumb line.

Our doors are not designed to support your walls, ensure that the lintel will offer the support for the walls, roof and floor. This will also need to be level.

Leave the finishing and decorating until after the doors are installed. Viva recommend that you plaster up to the frame after it is fitted and sealed. Flooring should be laid after installation and butt up to the lower track. To assist in measuring up correctly for your new doors read our ‘measuring up guide‘.

Double glazing

The glazing to be supplied will in the majority if cases be a 24mm toughened low-e (to british standards specification) which is argon filled and has a warm edge spacer to further improve insulation. However the very largest panes over 2 metres in width will require special consideration (and higher prices) we can however quote you on any large size or specialist glazing plus the installation requirements made necessary by the handling difficulties.

Slim Line frames

In most instances when the doors are closed the frames stack behind each other so the sight line is only 83mm. If you opt for a configuration where two doors meet in the middle the sightline can be 158mm. With landscape doors and such slim sections your view is wide open.

Safe and Secure

The runners and track are designed to prevent the removal of panels from the outside. The glazing is beaded from the inside so rest assured that even the most enthusiastic intruder will not find it easy to break into your home. The locks are a high quality eurolock which if forced or even snapped will be impossible to open whilst the 5 point locks from the lead door that lock into the frame are not only a hook ,mortice catch but also mushroom head mortices, desperation to get in would not prove effective.
